Lucky (?!) 13

A new calm has fallen over our house as Blake starts to sleep through the night. Like all other challenges he met this one head on, and is sleeping for 8-hours straight! At only 13 weeks, maybe he doesn't know that 13 is supposed to be an unlucky number. Or maybe, like everything else, Blake takes what is traditionally unlucky, and turns it around. He continues to amaze us!

He's a Chunk!

We are happy to say Blake keeps chunking up. On Monday he weighed in at 10 pounds 2 ounces, and he couldn't be doing any better. He is really healthy and has long periods of happy wakeful time these days. He also started to sleep in his own bed this week, so now we just have to convince him that sleeping through the night is cool.

The Date is Set

We spoke with Texas Children's on Friday and they have officially scheduled Blake's Glenn surgery (see this link for more details on the surgery) for September 9.

We will head to Houston for a series of tests and prep work on Sept. 3, and he will be admitted for surgery on Sept. 8. We are not sure how long he will be in the hospital, but we estimate it will be about two weeks.

It's time to start praying again!

The State of Blake

Blake had his July cardiology visit and his two month check up this week. Both went wonderfully. His doctors could not be more pleased with his progress and are just thrilled to see him doing so well. His heart is clear and his shunt from his first surgery is still providing plenty of circulation for him. He also weighed in at 8 lbs 9 oz. He is 21" long now. All of his measurements put him in the 5th percentile of full-term babies, so considering he was a 35-week preemie, that is quite a feat.

All this good news means that he is in good shape to have his surgery sooner rather than later. They are estimating he will have his second surgery in September. The reason for this is so he can have the healthiest possible anatomy before cold and flu season hits. Logically, we know this is great news, emotionally, I don't think we were quite ready to go back to the stress of hospitals and surgery. All this being said, we are just going to enjoy the next two months and try not to think about it too much. Thanks to everybody for keeping Blake in your prayers, it truly means the world to us.
