Cool kid

Getting fitted for his new glasses. We tried to get black ones, but they were discontinued. Clearly he is thrilled.

And now for some good news

The cardiologist appointment went great. Dr. Shapiro says clinically Blake looks great. His sats are in the mid 80s which is where they have been and on the high end of where they are expected to be, and all his valves look good.

He also says thay starting school next week should be great, and that the teachers should know they need to treat Blake just like a normal kid.  Normal, that's pretty funny if you ask me, since there doesn't seem to be anything normal about this kid!

Now we are off to get fitted for baby glasses.

Not so great news

Blake's opthamologist appointment didn't go so great. Blake is very farsighted and will need glasses. My heart is breaking for him because I don't want his life to be any harder than it already is.

The doc said they usually don't see it in kids until 2 because until then they generally aren't smart enough to know that the world looks blurry and they want to cross their eyes to fix it.

Please pray his cardiologist visit goes better.

Pulling on Up

Blake pulled up today on his own.  I was so excited to come downstairs and tell Bryan, and his response was, "Oh yeah, he did that for me earlier.  I guess I forgot to tell you."  Sheesh, men!

Next step is to graduate from the worm crawl.  We'll see how that goes since he is MUCH more interested in walking.

Success!

Today, I (Tiffany) ran my first half marathon.  I felt good for most of the run, but I must admit, the hill (that felt like it was about at 90 degrees) at mile 12 was my nemesis.  But, even it couldn't keep me down.  I don't know what the official results say, but my watch says I took 2 hours and 11 minutes to run 13.1 miles (I did stop my watch at my potty break), which means my pace was exactly 10 minutes/mile.

I am so grateful for Bryan, Mom, Mason, Blake, Natalie, Casey, Georgia, and Adele coming out to cheer me on.  They really lifted my spirit to see them on the side of the road.  As did my favorite sign on the side of the road, "Run like a fat kid for queso."  And, that is what I did - all the way to Maudie's for some post-race celebratory Diablo Sol Food - yum!

Who knows, maybe next year I'll work towards the full - or maybe, I will be a half kind of girl.  Only time will tell.

Firsts and Photos

Another week of firsts in the Galligan house.  Blake is standing on his own (although still not pulling up on his own) and starting to eat real food (shocker, he loves cheese).  Tiffany also ran her longest yet, 10 miles.

On to more important things, cute kids!

Deep Thoughts

I had a lot of time to think on my run today, and I got pretty reflective. I started thinking how lucky I am that every time I ask my body to do something it responds and does just what I ask it to. It makes me sad that Blake's body won't do the same for him. I would give anything in the world to change that.
